OPTI-SEAL® UHMW-Polyethylene Seals
Optimize offers piston seals in two different high-performance polymers. OPTI-SEAL® UHMW-Polyethylene seals offer increased resistance to abrasion, and are an excellent choice for long life in mostly aqueous based mobile phases, especially when buffer salts are in use.
Improved Teflon® Blend™ (ITB™) Seals
For mostly organic mobile phases, our Improved Teflon® Blend™ (ITB™) Seals offer long life in combination with broad solvent compatibility. For specific recommendation on a seal material for use with your particular mobile phase, consult our Solvent/Seal Compatibility Guide.
Optimize Sapphire Pistons
Optimize Sapphire Pistons offer optimal concentricity and resistance to wear. The angle at which sapphire rods are cut in relation to the grain of the crystal lattice has a large effect on the durability and strength of the finished product. This cut angle is tightly controlled during the machining process, resulting in a piston with maximal resistance to breakage and superior wear characteristics.

HEAD-LOCK™ Quick-Release Kits for Waters Pump Heads

HEAD-LOCK™ Quick-Release Pump Head Kits upgrade any standard Waters 100 µL pump head to full-quick connect/release operation, and even add head supports that guide your pump head safely off the piston. Gain access to pump seal and piston in seconds, without tools!
Bring quick-connect/release technology to your existing Waters pump heads with the HEAD-LOCK™ Quick-Release Kit. Once installed, this fully retrofittable kit delivers tool-free access to pistons and seals inside Waters 100µL or 225µL heads with the turn of a single thumbscrew. |
Unlike the standard dual-bolt retention scheme, HEAD-LOCK™ utilizes alignment pins that mount directly into the support bushing. These pins keep the head properly aligned and fully support it during installation and removal, reducing the risk of piston breakage and seal distortion. A concentric retention mechanism keeps head/piston alignment optimal, eliminating the requirement of equal torque on the dual hex bolts. |

The HEAD-LOCK™ Quick-Release Kit comes with two alignment pins, and a faceplate/thumbscrew set - all the parts you need to upgrade a single head. We also offer a 5/32" wrench for installing the alignment pins, if you don't already have one in your lab. HEAD-LOCK™ works on any standard Waters 100µL or 225µL round head, and on OPTI-PRIME pump heads from Optimize Technologies. It won't fit the older square heads found on some Waters pumps, however, but these units can be upgraded with an Optimize Fluid Upgrade Kit.
HEAD-LOCK™: Installation and Use
Installng HEAD-LOCK™ is as easy to install as it is to use. Only one tool is required - a 5/32" wrench. The following installation steps will usually be performed with the bushing already on the pump. They are shown separately for clarity.

Start by tightening the support rods into the support bushing. |

Now, you can slip your pump head onto the support rods and over the piston. |

Grab the HEAD-LOCK™ face plate, tighten the knob, and you're done |
