The purpose of the chromatographic support is to retain a thin, uniform film of liquid phase.

Chromosorb diatomite - based supports
There are three basic Chromosorb diatomite-based supports: Chromosorb G, P and W. These are available in untreated or treated forms, as well as in various mesh ranges. Chromosorb T, a Teflon-based support is specifically suitable for the analysis of very polar compounds such as water, hydrazine or sulfur dioxide, since these compounds show severe tailing on other supports.
Different support treatments
Non-acid washed (NAW)
All Chromosorb supports prepared from diatomite (Chromosorb grades G, P and W) are available in an untreated form, referred to as non-acid washed (NAW).
Acid-washed (AW)
The Chromosorb grades G, P and W can be treated with acid. The acid-washing procedure removes mineral impurities from the support surface and reduces surface activity.
Acid-washed, dimethyl dichlorosilane treated
(AW-DMCS)
Chromosorb grades G, P and W are available with the combined acid-washed and DMCS treatment. Unlike untreated diatomaceous supports, they are inert and do not vary in adsorption and catalytic activity. This lack of surface interaction is demonstrated by symmetrical peak shapes.
Chromosorb high-performance (HP)
Chromosorb W and Chromosorb G are available in the HP grade. This HP grade is ideal for use with steroids, bile acids, alkaloids as well as for other analyses of pharmaceutical, medical and toxicological compounds. Chromosorb HP is a high quality, carefully acid-washed and silanized, smoothly calcinated diatomite. It shows no catalytic surface activity and requires a short column conditioning time. It features superior inertness and column efficiency. Every batch of supports undergoes stringent quality control to ensure product uniformity
