Catch and release is a technique commonly used to purify amines using a silica supported acid (SCX or SCX-2). In the procedure, the silica supported acid “catches” the amine of interest and then all of the impurities are washed out (SPE formats are well suited for this). Once this is done, the amine is “released” from the supported acid with a solution of 2M of ammonia in MeOH. This technique can also be used to purify carboxylic acids using a silica supported amine (SiliaBond Amine) and releasing with a 5% acetic acid in MeOH solution.
SiliCycle’s SCX, SCX-2 and SiliaBond Amine have consistent higher loadings and purity, making them ideal for these applications. |
