Transition metals are used as catalysts in a whole variety of organic chemistry reactions. Removing these metals post reaction is a major issue for many chemists and particularly process chemists in the pharmaceutical industry where the toxic nature of transition metals means their concentration has to be reduced to the single digit ppm level for the material to be used in-vivo and for clinical trial work.
