Gilson ASPEC 271

The Gilson ASPEC 271 system is an automated sample preparation platform designed for positive pressure solid phase extraction (SPE) and advanced liquid handling workflows. It supports a wide range of extraction techniques, including SPE, supported liquid extraction (SLE), liquid–liquid extraction (LLE), and gel permeation chromatography (GPC)/SPE, with optional on-line integration to liquid chromatography (LC) systems. The system accommodates large cartridge bed volumes within a compact footprint, enabling unattended, high-throughput processing and methods that require multiple cartridge extractions. Dual syringe pump configurations allow accurate handling of volumes from microlitre to millilitre scale, supporting both sample clean-up and precise reagent delivery.

Reproducibility is enhanced through positive pressure extraction and a sealing cap design that ensures consistent flow across samples, while pressure-sensing technology monitors each fluid path to detect blockages or abnormal cartridge pressure. Mobile rack technology enables multiple fraction collection and additional preparation steps within a single method, extending flexibility for complex workflows. Optional jet wash stations help reduce carryover and cross-contamination. System operation is controlled through TRILUTION software, which supports sequential or batch processing, multi-fraction elution, and method development across different extraction techniques, making the ASPEC 271 suitable for clinical, forensic, food, environmental, and research laboratory applications.

Features

  • Flexible SPE Cartridge Compatibility – Standard racks support 1, 3, and 6 mL polypropylene or glass SPE cartridges
  • High Unattended Sample Capacity – Large bed capacity enables automated processing of up to 144 samples per run
  • Multiple Fraction Elution – Supports collection of up to nine fractions per sample when using 1 mL cartridges
  • Sequential Extraction Capability – Allows multiple extractions to be performed consecutively from the same sample
  • Direct and Sealed Eluate Transfer – Eluates can be transferred into sealed injection vials or directly to an LC injection valve
  • Multi-Solvent Access – Five solvent reservoirs provide flexibility for complex extraction and wash protocols
  • Positive Pressure Delivery – Single syringe pump supports air push via internal syringes or external air sources
  • Modular Collection Format – Compatible with a wide range of collection vessels, from 2 mL vials to 15 mL tubes (16 × 100 mm)
  • On-Line LC Integration – Optional GX direct injection module enables automated injection onto HPLC or LC–MS systems
  • Wide Volume Handling Range – Dual syringe pump option accurately manages volumes from 10 µL to 25 mL
  • Dual-Purpose Operation – Can be configured as an SPE platform or a general liquid handling system for pre- and post-purification steps
