Gilson EXTRACTMAX

The EXTRACTMAX Automated Magnetic Bead Extraction platform integrates Gilson’s PIPETMAX 268 personal pipetting robot with the EXTRACTMAN magnetic bead extraction technology to deliver automated, reproducible ESP-based workflows. The system uses a dedicated magnetic head fitted with a disposable bead capture strip to minimise carryover and contamination. A custom-designed extraction plate supports a complete bind–wash–elute process, including one sample well, three wash wells, and a final elution well, allowing up to four samples to be processed in parallel.

By moving magnetic beads rather than liquids, EXTRACTMAX applies Exclusion-based Sample Preparation (ESP) technology to reduce shear forces associated with traditional pipetting wash steps. This approach supports efficient recovery of weakly bound or transient interactions while maintaining sample integrity. Full software control enables walk-away operation, improving reproducibility across users and experiments, and provides flexibility to work with a wide range of magnetic bead kits for proteins, nucleic acids, cells, and other analytes from diverse sample matrices.

Features

  • Integrated Automation Platform – Combines PIPETMAX liquid handling with EXTRACTMAN magnetic bead extraction in a single automated system
  • Exclusion-based Sample Preparation (ESP) Technology – Moves beads through wash and elution phases without liquid transfer, reducing shear stress and sample loss
  • Disposable Bead Capture Strip – Protects the magnetic head from direct contact with samples, reducing contamination and carryover risk
  • Dual-Function Head Design – Supports both pipetting operations and magnetic bead manipulation within the same workflow
  • Parallel Sample Processing – Enables simultaneous extraction of up to four samples using a custom multi-well plate format
  • Walk-Away Operation – Fully automated workflows reduce operator variability and improve reproducibility between runs
  • Broad Kit Compatibility – Software-controlled protocols support use with a wide range of commercial magnetic beads and assay chemistries
  • Gentle Capture of Weak Interactions – Preserves weakly bound or transient molecular complexes that may be lost with conventional wash-intensive methods
  • Wide Application Scope – Suitable for extraction and purification of proteins, nucleic acids, cells, viruses, and other analytes from complex sample types
