GL Sciences PHASER Pro Olfactory Detection Port

The GL Sciences PHASER Pro Olfactory Detection Port is designed for gas chromatography–olfactometry (GC/O) applications, enabling the sensory detection of aroma and odour compounds separated by gas chromatography. In a typical GC/O configuration, the column effluent is split between an analytical detector, such as an FID or mass spectrometer, and a sniffing port where compounds can be assessed by the human nose. By combining instrumental data with sensory evaluation, the PHASER Pro supports detailed analysis of odour-active compounds in areas such as food and beverage research, flavour and fragrance development, pharmaceuticals, packaging and chemical analysis. This approach helps establish links between chemical composition and perceived aroma characteristics.

The PHASER Pro incorporates a temperature-programmable transfer line that can follow the GC oven programme, helping to maintain a stable split ratio between detector and sniffing flows. This design reduces the risk of compound loss or thermal degradation and prevents heat stress at the sniffing port, supporting more accurate and sensitive olfactory detection. The heated transfer path is engineered to minimise cold spots, allowing efficient transfer of high-boiling or adsorptive compounds without retention. The system can also be equipped with voice recording and replay functionality to facilitate real-time sensory annotation during chromatographic analysis and is supplied with installation components and dedicated software for straightforward integration with a wide range of GC instruments.

Features

  • GC–Olfactometry Interface – Splits GC column effluent between an analytical detector and a sniffing port for combined chemical and sensory evaluation
  • Temperature-Programmable Transfer Line – Follows the GC oven programme to maintain stable flow splitting and improve analytical consistency
  • Heated, Cold-Spot-Free Transfer Path – Supports efficient transfer of high-boiling and adsorptive compounds without loss or condensation
  • Improved User Comfort – Heated design and optional moist air supply help reduce heat stress and drying at the sniffing port
  • High Sensitivity Olfactory Detection – Minimises compound degradation and supports precise evaluation of odour-active components
  • Voice Recording and Replay Option – Enables real-time sensory comments to be recorded and correlated with chromatographic peaks
  • Flexible Sniffing Position – Allows operation while seated or standing for improved ergonomics
  • Compact, Easy Installation – Designed for integration with most GC instruments and supplied with capillaries, connectors, nuts, ferrules and control software
