Seamless Scalability for High-Throughput or Bulk Yield Applications

InfinityLab semi-prep HPLC columns from Agilent are designed to maximise purity, throughput, and yield for purification methods. The range includes InfinityLab Poroshell 120 for high speed and efficiency, Pursuit XRs with high loading capacity, and ZORBAX with complementary selectivity. With the same reliability, quality, and separation power as the Agilent analytical columns, easy and predictable method scale-up is possible. In this article we explore the key stationary phases and recommended applications of Agilent’s InfinityLab semi-prep range.

Superficially Porous Particle (SPP) technology for high throughput applications

When your purification goal is speed and efficiency select the InfinityLab Poroshell 120 semi-prep columns. Packed with 4 µm superficially porous particles, the columns deliver higher chromatographic efficiencies and sharper peaks compared to traditional semi-prep columns. Faster flow rates can be used without significantly impacting resolution resulting in shorter run times. High performance results are obtained without sacrificing loadability when resolution and speed are most critical.
Two stationary phases are offered for scaling from sub-2 µm analytical to 4 µm semi-prep with 21.2 mm id. InfinityLab Poroshell 120 SB-C18 features bulky silanes to sterically protect the siloxane bond for excellent stability for low pH methods. InfinityLab Poroshell HPH-C18 is suitable for high-pH methods; designed with hybrid particle technology to provide high pH stability with improved particle ruggedness.

High yield for bulk purification applications

For a purification target of high yield, the InfinityLab Pursuit XRs columns are the recommended choice. The combination of high surface area with high carbon load offers maximum loadability and retention while maintaining excellent resolution.  These columns maximise yield allowing you to purify more product per injection.
Choose from three stationary phases: C18 with a wide pH range of 1.5 - 10, C8 for lower hydrophobic retention compared to the C18 phase, or diphenyl for different selectivity of aromatic compounds. Pursuit XRs columns are scalable from 3 µm HPLC to 5 µm preparative in 21.2 mm and 30 mm id.

Different selectivity for high throughput or high yield applications

InfinityLab ZORBAX semi-prep columns offer alternative selectivity for optimising separations for either high-throughput or bulk purification workflows. The most popular ZORBAX phases are available in 5 µm preparative scale in 21.2 mm and 30 mm id. The ZORBAX range offers a higher surface area than InfinityLab Poroshell 120 making them suitable for a wide range of methods. ZORBAX StableBond C18 and C8 columns offer the highest stability for low pH applications down to pH 1.
